Jakarta, MINE — Norman Ginting was officially appointed as Acting Chairman of the Indonesian Renewable Energy Society (METI) on Monday (04/05).

The appointment of Norman, who also serves as Project & Operations Director of Pertamina New & Renewable Energy (Pertamina NRE), is expected to further strengthen cross-stakeholder collaboration in supporting Indonesia’s clean energy strategic agenda.

In the midst of increasing energy security challenges and the demands of a global energy transition, METI under Norman’s leadership is directed to further strengthen its role as a strategic partner for the Government in providing more targeted, inclusive and real impact EBT development.

The energy transition is seen not only as an agenda for reducing emissions, but also as a momentum to strengthen energy independence and encourage national economic growth based on clean energy.

“METI will continue to strengthen its role as a strategic partner of the Government in encouraging the accelerated national energy transition that is targeted and has real impacts. The development of new renewable energy must be the foundation for Indonesia’s energy resilience and independence, as well as opening up opportunities for new economic growth, creating green jobs, as well as strengthening national industrial and technological capacity,” said Norman.

In the future, Norman wants METI to become a collaboration forum that is able to accelerate various national NRE strategic agendas, starting from the development of 100 GW PLTS, implementation of E20 bioethanol, Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), geothermal, biomass, cofiring, waste to energy, to various other clean energy initiatives. According to him, developing these sectors is important to strengthen national energy security while reducing dependence on fossil energy.

Apart from encouraging the development of EBT projects, METI is also directed to take a more active role in supporting the growth of the national clean energy industrial ecosystem. Through this approach, it is hoped that Indonesia will not only become a technology market, but also be able to develop as a competitive developer, producer, operator and innovator of clean energy technology.

Norman also emphasized that the development of EBT can have a wider economic impact through the creation of green jobs, increasing human resource competency, as well as strengthening supply chains and domestic industry. With this approach, it is hoped that the energy transition will not only be oriented towards environmental targets, but will also be able to create added value for national economic growth.

As a collaborative home for the national energy transition, METI will continue to strengthen cross-sector synergies to accelerate the implementation of new, renewable energy and realize Indonesia’s energy security.

The appointment of Norman Ginting as METI “master” also reflects Pertamina Group’s seriousness in supporting the national energy transition agenda by placing one of its best cadres to lead the national renewable energy organization.
