PLN EPI Ensures Secure Primary Energy Supply in New Year

Date:

Jakarta, TAMBANG,- PT PLN Energi Primer Indonesia (PLN EPI) ensures that the primary energy supply for national power plants is in a safe and controlled condition ahead of the New Year. This assurance was conveyed in line with maintaining adequate supplies of coal, biomass, gas and fuel oil (BBM) to support the reliability of the national electricity system.

PLN EPI Corporate Secretary, Mamit Setiawan, explained that until December 30 2025, the condition of coal stocks at all PLN steam power plants (PLTU) was at a safe level in all operational areas.

“In general, the condition of coal supply for national electricity is under control. The average coal stock in PLTUs in the Java, Madura and Bali regions is at a level of around 24.2 days of operation. Meanwhile for the Sumatra and Kalimantan regions it is around 33 days of operation, and in the Sulawesi, Maluku, Papua and Nusa Tenggara regions it is around 27.2 days of operation,” explained Mamit.

He explained that this availability reflects the readiness of PLN’s primary energy supply system in maintaining generator reliability, especially in periods with increasing electricity demand.

Apart from coal, PLN EPI also ensures that other primary energy supplies such as biomass, gas and fuel are in safe condition. Throughout 2025, biomass distribution for power plant cofiring is recorded to reach around 2.3 million tons, while the supply of LNG and fuel is ensured in accordance with delivery plans and plant operational needs.

“We manage all primary energy supplies, including coal, biomass, gas and fuel, in an integrated manner so that the reliability of the national electricity system is maintained. This is part of PLN EPI’s commitment to supporting a reliable and sustainable energy transition,” said Mamit.

He added that the fulfillment of coal supply for national electricity has been determined through official government assignments to mining companies, as stated in the Letter of the Director General of Mineral and Coal of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Number B-1839/MB.05/DBB.OP/2023 dated December 2 2023.

“With the support of this policy, PLN EPI ensures that all generator primary energy needs can be met in a sustainable manner, so that the reliability of the national electricity supply is maintained,” concluded Mamit.
