Jakarta, TAMBANG,- PT Pertamina International Exploration and Production (PIEP) succeeded in relocating 11 (eleven) officers working in Basra, Iraq and 8 (eight) who were in Dubai, UAE. The evacuation process from Basra, Iraq to Jakarta takes at least 14 days. The long time required is due to the closure of a number of international airports, such as in Kuwait City, Dubai and Doha.

“Dynamic geopolitics certainly has an impact on our operations in Iraq. Thank God, because of the excellent coordination from PIEP, PHE, Pertamina and the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Indonesian Embassy in a number of countries, our friends were able to return home safely,” said PHE Main Director, Awang Lazuardi.

Meanwhile, the Main Director of PIEP, Syamsu Yudha, emphasized that officer safety is the company’s main priority. PIEP carries out all HSSE procedures and the Business Continuity Plan (BCP) in a disciplined and coordinated manner with Pertamina Holding, Upstream Subholding and related authorities.

“We also continue to monitor the situation in real-time to ensure optimal protection for all personnel,” said Syamsu.

He emphasized that to carry out an assessment of the contingency plan for the evacuation route, so that if there is a closure of the air space, it will facilitate the evacuation process in the future.

Pertamina Iraq Exploration & Production (PIREP) moved quickly by activating the Emergency Response Team (ERT) immediately after receiving information regarding the United States and Israel’s attack on Iran. Apart from carrying out intensive monitoring, PIREP in parallel also strengthens communication and strategic coordination with the Indonesian Embassy in Baghdad, the Indonesian Embassy in Kuwait City, the Indonesian Embassy in Riyadh, the Indonesian Embassy in Abu Dhabi and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia. This was done to monitor developments in the situation and anticipate security dynamics in the Middle East region.

PIREP officers traveled overland from Basra, Iraq to the border in Safwan and entered Kuwait, continuing on to Dammam, Saudi Arabia.

After that, all personnel traveled by air from Dammam to Jeddah and continued to Indonesia. Some personnel arrived in Jakarta on March 10 2026, while the rest only arrived on March 11 2026.

The Pertamina Team’s fast and alert evacuation process was also appreciated by the diaspora who worked for other oil companies. Where it is very clear that Pertamina really prioritizes the safety of its workers. Apart from ensuring personnel safety, PIEP also contacts the families of all PIREP officers to convey the latest conditions directly. The company also provides a 24-hour hotline to ensure families get the information and support they need.
