Jakarta, TAMBANG, – There are three things that are unique to the mining industry, namely capital intensive, labor intensive and having multiple impacts. The operation of mining business activities will have an economic impact on communities around the mine. This was also conveyed by the Chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) Dairi Regency, Jogi Tambunan. He believes that the operation of PT Dairi Prima Mineral (DPM) in Silima Pungga-punga District will be the main catalyst for improving the welfare of the Dairi community.
Jogi emphasized that mining operations will have a multiplier effect (multiplier effect) is massive and touches all levels of the economy. “The welfare of the people of Dairi Regency, North Sumatra, will increase if PT Dairi Prima Mineral (DPM) operates,” stressed Jogi Tambunan, Friday (31/10).
On this occasion, Jogi explained that this double impact would trigger growth in the MSME sector and employment in the real sector. “Starting from egg traders, vegetables, fruit, tire repairmen, restaurants, to accommodation and even hotels, this will grow. This is in line with the absorption of labor to fill the real sector,” he explained.
According to Jogi, the number of workers in each sector will grow rapidly, not only in the mining area, but also outside the mine. He also mentioned that CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) contributions, whose value is estimated at billions of rupiah per year, would also provide multiplier effect for regional development.
“It is very strategic if DPM operates, so that it can support the economy of Dairi Regency, especially now that there is budget efficiency from the central government,” he added.
Responding to environmental issues that are often a concern, Jogi believes that PT DPM has definitely taken into account environmental impacts accurately. “In my opinion, DPM will experience multiple losses if they ignore the environment, so they are the most careful party,” he explained.
Regarding the existence of parties who refuse, Jogi said this was a very normal dynamic and appreciated this concern as a control for the DPM. However, he is also wary of those who object with certain ‘hidden agendas’.
Jogi emphasized that Dairi Regency must learn from other developed regions because their mining potential is being developed. The natural potential that has not been utilized so far must be immediately leveraged.
“What Dairi Regency needs most right now is farming and rural roads. This is very worrying, especially for farmers who find it difficult to sell their agricultural products,” said Jogi.
Jogi gave high appreciation to PT DPM for showing its social commitment by sending children from around the mine to China to school, even though the company is not yet fully operational. “Imagine when it is operational, more people can be sent to school in China,” he concluded.
