NRW Holdings Limited says it has been awarded a bulk earthworks contract by Rio Tinto for its West Angelas Sustaining Project (WASP), marking another important milestone in the company’s long-standing partnership with Rio Tinto at West Angelas.
The contract encompasses the bulk earthworks to provide access to five new mining satellite pits at the West Angelas operation, which includes haul road construction, concrete overpass arch construction and other associated infrastructure.
The contract is valued at approximately A$175 million ($123 million) and will have a peak workforce of some 220 personnel. Works are expected to commence in early 2026 and be completed in 2027.
Alongside this, NRW Contracting, in a 50:50 joint venture with Brady Marine and Civil Pty Ltd has been awarded Stage 2 of the Dampier Cargo Project, involving the design and construction of the Dampier Link Bridge, by Pilbara Ports.
The Dampier Link Bridge is a critical part of Pilbara Ports strategy to establish and grow resilient direct shipping services to the Pilbara, NRW says. The scope includes the design and construction of a new wharf structure (referred to as the Link Bridge) that will create a continuous wharf between the refurbished Dampier Cargo Wharf and the new Dampier Bulk Handling Facility. The value of this package of work to the JV is approximately A$49 million.
