Jakarta, MINE – A big step towards a low-emission energy future has been initiated and proven again by Pertamina Group. This time through collaboration between PT Pertamina International Shipping (PIS) and PT Perusahaan Gas Negara (Persero) Tbk (PGN).
The two Pertamina subholdings are working together to establish business cooperation as outlined in a memorandum of understanding (MoU). The two companies will cooperate in the development, utilization of infrastructure and maritime transportation modes for low-carbon fuel-related products. Includes providing transportation for LNG, Ammonia, hydrogen and other cargoes.
The MoU was signed by PIS President Director Surya Tri Harto and PGN President Director Arief Kurnia Risdianto on Friday last week. Also present were PIS Business Planning Director Eka Suhendra, PIS Fleet Director M. Irfan Zainul Fikri, PGN Director of Strategy and Business Development Mirza Mahendra, as well as other management staff.
“In this collaboration we are talking about optimal value for the Pertamina Group, not just for PIS or PGN. With the plan to have gas transportation infrastructure, including for floating. We are trying to examine investment options, so that in the long term we are not too exposed to the risk of market price fluctuations. Once again, to create optimal value for Pertamina together,” said Surya.
This collaboration is a strategic step to strengthen synergy between Pertamina Group subholdings, as well as encouraging fleet strengthening and cargo diversification to support national energy security.
PGN President Director Arief Kurnia Risdianto also said that this collaboration was a development of the previous PIS and PGN collaboration. Where since 2024, PIS has transported 17 LNG transports for PGN to FSRU Lampung & West Java, as well as Terminal Arun using a spot charter scheme.
“We are escalating and developing the existing cooperation, which in principle includes developing ownership, construction, and management of the midstream to downstream gas sectors. So that Pertamina Group has mature infrastructure and prepares Indonesia for the LNG era. Where in the future, the portion of LNG will be bigger, so additional infrastructure will be needed. We are trying to develop it, so that later we will not only be spectators, but also have ownership in this infrastructure,” he said.
In the future, cooperation including transportation development, fleet strengthening, as well as opportunities for low-carbon energy commodities such as LNG, ammonia and hydrogen and their supporting infrastructure, will be followed up through the formation of working teams to explore concrete projects and long-term cooperation schemes. It is believed that this collaboration will strengthen Pertamina Group’s synergy in supporting national energy security.
This synergy is also expected to strengthen Pertamina Group’s role as a provider of efficient, integrated and sustainable energy solutions.
