Through an official statement, the company confirmed that the victim was an employee named Simson Mulia (48). The company management expressed its deep condolences for this incident.
“The PTFI extended family is deeply saddened by the loss of one fellow employee in the name of Mr. Simson Mulia, aged 48, who died in this incident. We express our deepest condolences and provide support for the bereaved family,” said VP Corporate Communications PT Freeport Indonesia, Katri Krisnati in a written statement, Wednesday (11/3).
The company stated that it is currently continuing to coordinate with government security forces to handle the incident and ensure the situation in operational areas remains under control.
“The safety and security of all employees and all parties in our operational areas remains our main priority,” added Katri.
Until this news was published, the company together with security forces were still taking further steps to handle the shooting incident in the Grasberg open pit mining area.
