As part of its strategic drive toward a carbon-neutral mining operation, Zijin Golden Ridge Limited has increased its investment in energy-efficient technologies with the integration of five SANY SET150S off-highway hybrid mining trucks. The trucks, assembled by SANY West Africa, have been handed over to the Chinese mining company during a ceremony at Zijin’s Akyem gold mine in Ghana.
The investment also reflects Zijin’s philosophy of continuous improvement through the refining of ideas and integration of technologies that enhance efficiency while reducing environmental impact.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, Mine Maintenance Director, Xiaoming Yi, described the delivery of the trucks as a significant milestone for the mine. “Today marks an important milestone for Zijin Akyem Mine as we receive the new SANY hybrid mining trucks into our fleet. These trucks will help us reduce fuel consumption, lower operating costs, and cut carbon emissions; supporting Zijin’s global commitment to greener and more efficient mining.”
He added: “SANY hybrid trucks are already performing successfully at other Zijin operations, giving us confidence in the reliability and long-term value. We also appreciate SANY’s strong after-sales service and the establishment of a dedicated consignment parts store at Akyem, which will help improve uptime and support stable production.”
Jin Zhao, General Manager of SANY West Africa, explained the technology behind the SET150S: “The SET150S off-highway mining truck uses diesel and electric hybrid technology. The truck integrates dual power systems to improve efficiency. When operating, the electric system supports energy optimisation, helping to reduce fuel consumption and carbon emissions. We believe this equipment will create value for Zijin and help build a successful future.”
Beyond the equipment itself, the partnership includes strengthened after-sales support and the establishment of a dedicated consignment parts store at Akyem.
The introduction of the five SET150S hybrid trucks Zijin says signals more than a fleet expansion. It reflects Zijin Golden Ridge Ltd’s deliberate transition toward cleaner, smarter and more efficient mining operations.
