Jakarta, MINE – Indonesia officially became a member of the International Mine Rescue Body (IMRB) at the International Mine Rescue Conference forum held in Salzburg, Austria, on September 25 2025.

Indonesia’s membership in this global organization is represented by the Indonesian Mining and Energy Emergency Response Association (PERTAPINDO).

PERTAPINDO is a national organization that oversees and develops mine rescue workers in Indonesia, which in its establishment and implementation of activities is fully supported by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources of the Republic of Indonesia.

The General Chairperson of PERTAPINDO, Sri Raharjo, said that this recognition was the result of Indonesia’s continuous efforts to build a mine rescue system that was professional, structured and in line with international standards.

“Indonesia’s membership in the IMRB opens up strategic opportunities for knowledge exchange, strengthening human resource capacity, as well as international collaboration in developing procedures, technology and mine rescue competencies,” said Sri Raharjo in his statement, Tuesday (3/2).

This official acceptance marks a strategic milestone for Indonesia in strengthening its role and contribution at the international level, especially in developing work safety and emergency response preparedness in the mining industry.

“With this membership, Indonesia is now part of a global network of countries committed to improving standards, competencies and best practices for mining emergency assistance,” he added.

As Indonesia’s official representative, PERTAPINDO will play an active role in various IMRB agendas, including policy and technical forums, capacity building programs, cross-country learning exchanges, and participation in joint training and international mine rescue competitions. It is hoped that this active participation can accelerate the increase in preparedness and professionalism of mining emergency response teams in Indonesia.

IMRB is an international organization that focuses on strengthening global cooperation, improving mining safety, and developing mine rescue skills to protect mine workers and minimize the impact of high-risk incidents. Indonesia’s joining also strengthens the representation of the Asian region in the IMRB as well as confirms Indonesia’s commitment to safe, responsible and sustainable mining practices.

By accepting Indonesia as a member of the IMRB at the International Mine Rescue Conference in Salzburg, PERTAPINDO confirmed its commitment to bridge global standards with national implementation, in order to create a reliable, professional and world-class Indonesian mining emergency response system.

At this international forum, Indonesia, represented by Wiyono Minarno, member of the PERTAPINDO Supervisory Board, together with Rachmat Mokodampit from PT Freeport Indonesia, presented a paper entitled: Mitigating Risk, Ensuring Safety: The Landscape of Mining Emergency Response Preparedness in Indonesia.
