NRW Holdings Ltd.’s subsidiary, Golding Contractors Pty Ltd., signed a Mining Services Agreement (MSA) with TEC Coal Pty Ltd. at the Stanwell Meandu mine in Southern Queensland’s Burnett Region, commencing July 1, 2026. The MSA has a total value of approximately A$750 million ($502 million) over a 5.5-year term beginning in January 2026, consisting of a six-month mobilization phase and a five-year operational phase. Under the terms of the MSA, the major mining fleet will be provided by TEC Coal Pty Ltd. and will employ approximately 400 personnel residing within the local region.

The Meandu mine is located 25 km south-east of Kingaroy in Queensland’s South Burnett region. It supplies coal exclusively to the adjacent Tarong power stations and currently operates four working pits. Coal is extracted from three gently dipping seams, ranging from 2 to 20 meters thick, with the two principal seams located at depths of approximately 30 and 60 meters. A 1.5 km conveyor delivers coal directly to the Tarong Power Station, improving transport efficiency and reliability. Originally, the mine was expected to supply coal for up to 25 years. However, further exploration has identified more economically recoverable reserves.

Commenting on the contract award, NRW CEO Jules Pemberton said: “This award is reflective of Goldings’ excellent reputation for the delivery of safe and efficient contract mining services. The capital-light structure of the contract aligns with our strategy of reducing the capital intensity of our contract mining operations and positions the group to be able to deliver continued value to our shareholders. We look forward to welcoming the approximately 400 local employees to the NRW family and to providing them with a safe and positive workplace.”

Golding’s scope covers whole-of-mine management, including the operation and maintenance of three fleets of principal-supplied heavy mining equipment, the operation and maintenance of a principal-supplied dragline, the operation and maintenance of the processing plant, statutory responsibilities, and mine planning.

Stanwell said it will now commence a six-month transition and mobilization period with the incoming contractor to ensure continuity of operations and minimal disruption to the workforce and community. Meandu mine will continue to supply coal to the Tarong power stations through at least 2035, supported by ongoing exploration and the proposed King 2 East expansion project.
